This month’s free download is a tune that I co-wrote with a good friend of mine by the name of TJ Brown. It’s different from previous episodes, primarily because it’s not me singing. Which made it a lot easier for me to mix! As any artist will tell you, it’s difficult to distance yourself from your own work. Particularly when you have the option of singing it over and over and over again until you get it “right”. TJ bailed me out on this one because his vocal take just worked better. So well in fact that we built the texture of the tune around it. We were going for the tone of an old sounding live recording. When I listen to it it takes me to a crowded bar from a different era, with smoke hanging in the air and pints of beer and glasses of wine clanking and sloshing in the background. But then again that’s what we had in mind, give it a listen and let me know what you think. If it takes you someplace else I’d love to hear about it.
